From Bad Cursed (Book #2)
As Dead as it Gets (Book #3)
By: Katie Alender --You can Read her Bio on Goodreads.com
I discovered the first book last year just before the second book came out, I was going through a faze where no books could hold my interest because I had just read a book that I had been waiting for, for about a year and it was not what I was expecting. It was one of thoses cases where you wander down the book store aisles from Adult to Young adult, over and over again picking up books reading the back and then putting it back because there is something wrong with it, your not sure what but you know that there must be something wrong right? I am the first to admit wrong. After all some of those books that I rejected that time I ended up getting another time. It had been about an hour and a half and I needed to get to work soon when I finally picked up Bad Girls Don't Die.
Let me tell you something I must have picked up this book five or six other times on other visits back when it was in hard cover and then this visit when it was in soft cover. I am not ashamed to admit that I ended up finally giving in and buying it to get over my urge to pick it up every time... and because like I said I was being surper picky.
Lets start with the Cover:
One thing about the cover is, is that it knows how to draw your eye, especially when you are looking for a good ghost or horror story. The first time that I noticed this book was because of this cover, I liked the way that the girls face was covered so you didn't know what she looked like which in my view added to the mystery of the book, that combined with the title is what made me read the back of the book in the first place.
The back of the book:
In Alender's character-driven debut, outsider Alexis notices strange things occurring in her house and with her younger sister, Kasey. Alexis soon realizes that her life--and her family's--is creeping from dysfunction into danger, in this gripping new thriller.
When I decided to finally read the book I was pleasntly surprised. After the flop of the book that I had read before this one, it was like adding wood to a fire that rekindled the fire... or in this case my love of reading and it helped remind me that not all books will be good but there are still a ton of good books out there waiting for there chance to shine.
The writer did a great job introducing the main character Alexis and her family. Instead of doing what some writers do and jump right into all the Horror scences, she introduced them subtly and let them grow. The Climax of the book happened at the end of the book.
Another thing that I liked is that the writer was able to make you wonder who the ghost was by making you think that it was someone else, leading the characters and the readers down a wild goose chase.
Also who doesn't like and ending that ends with fire as long as you it doesn't happen in real life?
The only Problems:
1. Alexis is a classic anti social character at the begging of the book, although The pink hair was a nice touch.
2. I think the bad spirit being in a doll has been a bit over done. I mean I know to some people dolls seem creepy already, but I personally have never been afraid of them so maybe i'm just missing the magic there?
3. Creepy house. I mean we should have seen that coming. When will it be that a normal nice house in a perfect neighboor hood is the one where all the creepy stuff happens?
Even with all those I loved the book. A lot, I like that the writer took the time to tell you how the ghost came to be a ghost and how things came to this point. Its nice that there were no loose endings, like some writers it was a nice change.
Book two Cover
Again a Shadowed Girl on the Cover.
Book two back cover:
Worried about her sister, Alexis and her best friend Megan decide to investigate by joining the Sunshine Club. At first, their connection with leader Aralt seems harmless. Alexis even finds herself reveling in her elegance and success. Still, the group is crumbling from within, and soon Alexis finds herself battling her own personal demons.
The second Book is not about Ghosts but about a demon, It was not what I was expecting but I liked the first book so I went and bought the second book and well learned another few things about Alexis. Some of which is classic High school student, I just thought that Alexis would not fall for that trap. But hey no character can be perfect.
Oh wait. The sunshine girls are perfect with the help of the demon, that needs one of them to die so that the others can stay perfect. Whoops. I gues thats not perfect.
Yes I realize I gave away the ending. Don`t Worry Aleixs frees the others but Loses Lydia and does something to herslef. This leads to the third book.
Book Threes Cover ( This one has beed out for maybe two months)
Book threes Back Cover:
It's been three months since Alexis helplessly witnessed Lydia Small's violent death, and all she wants is for her life to return to normal.
But normal people don’t see decaying bodies haunting photographs. Normal people don’t have to deal with regular intrusions from Lydia’s angry ghost, sometimes escalating to terrifying attacks.
at first, it seems that Lydia wants revengeon Alexis alone. But a girl from school disappears one night, and Alexis spots one of Lydia’s signature yellow roses lying on the girl’s dresser the next day. Soon, it becomes clear that several of Alexis’s friends are in danger, and that she's the only person who can save them. But as she tries to intervene, Alexis realizes that her enemy is a much more powerful ghost than she's ever faced before... and that its fate is tied to hers in ways she couldn't possibly imagine.
Not even in her worst nightmares.
To change things up in this one Alexis sister is now the popular one but to her credit she does not give up on Alexis who seems to have given up on herself.
I can understand why I mean when the one thing that you love the most in the world you are afraid to do now because you see dead people in them I would be sad two. Also being shunned by the whole school because they think that you killed someone Would make anyone scared. I think that Alexis learns the most about herslef and the others around her in this book. I mean not only does she get to see where her sister Kasey spent all that time and experiance it herself, But she also realizes that she never really trusted anyone, and that is all that they want from her.
Now I know that I did not make a a list of things that I did not like about the second book but I felt that, that list might be too long. I think that It was not all her fault because she was listening to the demon in her head. But for book three this is the list:
1. Okay girl do not let a boy control you like that you are strong!
2. Megan, Megan, Megan why! I know that you were worried about what you almost did but a class like that! Ahhh!
3. Really. Did she have to let him go... I know I just don`t like how this happens, I did not want her to feel worse because she did that.
4. Someone needs to tell that agent to back off. I mean it.
If anyone wants to have spoils for the books let me know, I will add them. If you just want to talk about them let me know!
